While I’ve been more of a hands-on learner when it comes to this crazy job of parenting, a friend of mind bought this book for me as a gift…and I couldn’t put it down. It’s chock full of really useful information, and it has definitely changed the way I interact with my daughter. I’m not saying that all of the information is on target, and the author sometimes drives me mad with her overly optimistic assumptions of kids’ attention spans and self-control (I’m sorry, but I can’t keep my kid entertained while I’m cooking by letting her play with pots and pans — a video will have to do), but overall, I would go so far as to suggest that this book is a must-read.
My name is Suzy H, and I’m based in NYC. I’m a former corporate attorney turned fashion designer and the mother of a beautiful currently 20-month old girl, whom I will refer to as C, expecting my second (girl or boy). I remember being pregnant with C, busy with school and being completely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information out there about parenting as well as the mind-numbing number of product choices I had — and still have — to make. I know for a fact that I wasn’t the only one!
Over the past year and a half plus, I’ve made my fair share of mistakes and have gleaned bits of really useful information here and there, and it’s my goal with this blog to share them with you. Bjorn v. Ergo?, diaper rash issues?, educational videos?, good parenting books?, etc. I discuss it all here. I am by no means an expert (and I am CERTAINLY not a doctor), and God knows that I’m as much in need of advice and help as I can get sometimes, but if any bit of any of this information I’m throwing out there is helpful at all to anyone out there, lovely: my job is done. So, to be clear: this blog is not about my kid, though I will mention her from time to time as an example. This blog is about useful information presented in bite-sized (hopefully) chunks.
A word of warning: I am somewhat holistic/alternative in my approach to health and diet, so if that doesn't jive with you, either skip the relevant post, or feel free to disagree with me or to provide alternative information, All I request is that you do so respectfully.
